Tried to keep it simple with this Santa. I wanted a smaller, more primative, folk art Santa. He stands about 9-1/4" tall. He's made entirely from paper mache clay, with a cardboard armature.
He stands on a mound of "snow". The base has been trimmed with vintage and newer buttons all around for a more folksy look. All the paints are acrylic. The red parts of his costume were underpainted first with a deep purple. The red was then drybrushed over, letting a lot of the under coat show through. I used a thinned down neutral mix of blue and brown to wash over the white areas so that it would sink into the low spots. It accentuates the texture, and makes him look like he's been around for some time.
This will probably be my only post this month. I'm getting ready to move, so I'll be busy packing for the next several weeks. What a chore. I hate moving!
Have a great week!
Later,
Maggie

Miss Maggie,
Moving is fun, it's an adventure. We will miss you but just remember, one day at a time.
Hugs

I really enjoy reading how you go about your painting. I learn so much!! Hope your move goes smoothly. As one who is still setting in may I give a few words of wisdom? Don't forget to breathe! Deep breaths do wonders. ;)
Hey Maggie ... your "Folk Art Santa" is wonderful! Love the magic snowball he is standing on ... well, it looks like a magic snowball to me! A time traveling transporter so he can check on who is naughty and who is nice for the coming Christmas ...
Good luck on your move! Are you remaining in the Pacific NW? Packing and un-packing will certainly occupy most of your time in the coming weeks ... will be a good chance to get super organized (at least it would be for me!) ...
Take care
Maggie, This Santa is just too cute for words. I love his face. It's hard to believe he's so small. Sorry I won't be there to help you pack. I don't envy you a bit. Talk to you later. xoxo

He is a handsome and gentle soul.
His primitive look is warm and charming!
